W8W
National Wildlife Refuge Week 2015
Amateur Radio Special Event
October 10 - 18 2015

Luce Amateur Radio Society (W8NBY) will be operating from Whitefish Point Saturday, 17 October. Very rare! Especially interested in making JOTA contacts and local/regional 2m contacts.

Whitefish Point Unit (EN76ms)
managed by Seney NWR

The Whitefish Point Unit  is a stop-over for birds migrating to and from Canada.  The Whitefish Point region is renowned for its concentrations of birds during migration.  Each year thousands of raptors, passerines (perching birds) and water birds funnel through the point to cross Lake Superior.  The unit's primary natural features are gravel beaches, sandy beach dunes and stunted jack pine-dominated forest.
