N8XE RFI Saga
|
Pictures of a couple of poles behing my house. AEP came in and fixed the problem because one of the terminals on the transformer burned up. Our power went out of course. However, once they fixed it, the power line noise has gone away!! After installing my Hexbeam, I noticed that I had a ton of noise when the beam pointed due north. I had some hams comment that it sounded like power line noise. I went to the ARRL Site and looked at all the information that they had available about RFI. I found some great articles. Following the advice in the articles, the first thing I did was to see if the problem was internal to the house. I hooked the radio up to a 12 V Gel cell that I have and cut the main power. The noise still remained. I then did some more direction finding with the beam and sure enough, the noise was the loudest between 330 and 30 degrees. So the noise had to be somewhere north of the QTH. The noise blanker in the radio seems to eliminate this noise which is a good thing... however, I want it to go away! The buzzing goes away when it rains. Samples of the RFI noise here at the QTH. These samples were recorded at the same volume. The frequency on the radio is 28.000Mhz and using AM. S9
