About LV-103 or The Huron Lightship

The LV-103, built in 1920, was the third lightship to guard the entrance to the Lake Huron Cut. The nearly six mile long shipping channel was dredged through the Corsica and Northwest Shoals in 1893. Its purpose was to ensure safe passage from lower Lake Huron into the St Clair River. The Huron provided an MCW beacon on 310 khz that was part of its Aids to Navigation package, along with the Beacon Light and Fog Horn. The LV-103 is presently dry-berthed next to the St Clair River in Port Huron's Pine Grove Park.
