About The NMGS Radio Group

NM8GS is the Amateur Radio call sign of the Lightship Huron (LV-103/WLV526) Museum. It reflects the ship's original visual and radio designator NMGS, which was issued in 1940 and remained in effect until the 1970 decommissioning.

The NMGS Radio Group is dedicated to the promotion of the history and traditions of the Lightship Huron, the education of the public, and the pure fun of amateur radio. We are working on cosmetic improvements to the ship's remaining original radio gear. There is also an ICOM-725 transmitting into a cage antenna which has been modified to resonance on 20M band. It is often active during museum hours and lighthouse radio events. The radio room is available to licensed radio hams on paid tours. See hours info at www.phmuseum.org
