Edwin Howard Armstrong
Dec. 18, 1890 - Feb. 1, 1954

Inventor of the regenerative feedback circuit, the superheterodyne and frequency modulation. He received his electrical engineering doctorate at Columbia University and was at one time the largest individual shareholder of the Radio Corporation of America.

His 30 year patent battle with Lee DeForest over the regenerative circuit still ranks as the longest patent litigation in American history. He was also railroaded out of his rights to FM by his former friend David Sarnoff, Chairman of RCA. After Dr. Armstrong's suicide, his widow prevailed in a landmark suit against RCA.
