I was born in Cairo Illinois, March 9 1944, no wait maybe that's a little far back. Well..., I enlisted in the U.S. Marines in May 1961, you know, they gave me my very own pair of shoes! I knew that I had found a home.
I retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant (E-9) in April 1990, after 29 and 1/2 years, re the hair cut. I soon found that retirement wasn't my cup of tea, so I took a job as dispatcher for the police department of my little town of Chaffee Mo. That was in July 1990. We had 6 officers and 4 dispatchers. When I left in June 1996, I had been Chief of Police for about 6 months, guess I like to take charge.
Let me tell you guys something you know anyway, there is no money in small police departments. As Chief I was making just over 20,000 per year. So I went to the Franklin School of truck driving in Paducah Ky. I had driven heavy equipment in the early years of my Marine Corps Career, but needed that CDL. Went to work for USA Trucking for 2 years. Would have still been there but they wouldn't let me have a pet. When my wife rides, so does my dog, Buttons.
Signed on with Contract Freighters Inc., in May 98 and have been with them since. Drove a Red Racer for about 6 months, then took the plunge and bought my first Freightshaker, a 95 with about 500,000 miles on it. Traded it in December 99 for my current ride, a 2000 FLD. It is equipped with a 500 Detroit, 13 Speed (Heavy Duty), and 373 rears. Really like it, gets excellent fuel mileage, as long as the wind is calm or behind me! I am really happy with the Company, CFI treats us fine, as frogs hair! (Just in case they read this.)
I am married to the former Bonnie K. Greenlee. We were married in June 1964, and have one son, James Lynn Haney. He is married to Michelle, and she has given us two beautiful grand children, Casey Lyn and Nathan James. My son is an architect (like I can spell that), in Sacremento Ca. (to which I never get a run).
I have been a Ham since about 78, and a Tech for most of those years. My former call was KA6DNF, and I loved Six meters, and worked it a lot when the openings allowed. I am currently using an ICOM 706 MKII and an Outback Stealth, soon to be replaced by a Hi Serria I think. The equipment at home includes an ICOM 746, a tri bander at 34 feet, a 4 element on 6mtrs and 13 elements on 2mtrs. Also have an Inverted v cut for 40. Guess that about sums it up for now, so here it comes!
