Abandoned highways and bridges of Texas

Abandoned State Highway 6 near Clairette, Texas

This is the case where a new bridge was built a short distance away from the old one. In this case it looks like the old bridge may be still used for local use only. However, it is abandoned for State Highway 6 traffic and in one of the photos you can see the barricade. The bridge segments look good and probably aren't that old. The slabs at each end of the old road have really worn away though and may be covered by grass soon. Basically this is a parallel section of abandoned road formed after a newer (and stronger??) bridge was built. Sometimes only the bridge is left, this one has the approaches intact.
