FM 529 near
intersection with Northwest Freeway:
When U.S.
290 became a freeway, some of the adjacent roads were shifted. FM 529
was shifted to line up with an overpass on 290 and at the same time was
built under a railroad track to eliminate the need for a railroad
crossing. As with many other abandoned roads, you will find an
accumulation of trash, tires and junk alongside the road. In earlier
days, 529 went across a wide grassy area between the dual highway of
U.S. 290 (two lanes each way, with the grassy area reserved for a
future freeway. Do any of you remember the old "temporary crossover"
signs? To my knowledge there are only 2 others sections of abandoned
529.
