The story of a road that was rerouted and the old road submerged as
part of a lake. State Highway 36 at Belton Lake has a similar story.
Lake Fayette opened in 1978, with State Highway 159 looping the lake in
a new segment. The old segment, that went straight across as can be seen
in old maps and aerials, became a dead end on both ends with the old
road submerged below the lake. Lake Fayette is a beautiful, peaceful
lake and is a place to visit if you like fishing or just hanging out in
a boat. I had actually taken some personal photos of these locations,
but lost them due to a computer crash. Until I can drive back to here
and re-take photos, here are some photos and aerials of the history
of SH 159 at the lake, courtesy of Google Earth. Old Park Road and Park
Prairie Roads are old 159.
