Abandoned highways and bridges of Texas

State Highway 34 near Quinlan

There are two sections of abandoned roadway near the town of Quinlan, Texas. In this case, the highway was raised because a lake was built nearby. The old road would probably have flooded out. These are some pretty long abandoned sections that parallel State Highway 34 are are best shown with aerials and side shots. I've been this way several times, but until I can get some personal photos, I will use some Google Earth photos to show you how interesting old highways can be when such things as lakes are built nearby. The aerial shows the lake nearby and a good shot of the old road paralleling the new. The bottom three shots show another section of abandoned 34, this time north of the town. This is one of the most interesting old roads and one that I think will be around for awhile.
