We are excited to share the following updates and reminders for our upcoming events.
HamSCI’s Solar Eclipse Program on Zoom Wednesday, March 27, 2024, 8:00 pm & 10:00 pm
The program will start by covering HamSCI's basis and purpose, and quickly move into why they are conducting experiments, how hams and shortwave listeners (SWLS) can participate, and what they hope to learn from the event. Along the way, they will discuss why the science behind the event is important to users of the high-frequency radio spectrum - including amateur radio operators.

Eclipse QSO Party
Join with thousands of your fellow amateurs as part of the
largest crowd-sourced contest for ham radio scientific exploration ever. The
SEQP is for learning more about how the ionosphere works. Use any mode, any
band for all or part of each day. Participation can be from everywhere, you
do not need to be near the path of either eclipse to contribute valuable data
by participating The total solar eclipse will not be visible in Binghamton, NY. However, a partial solar eclipse will begin at 2:08 PM EDT and end at 4:34 PM EDT with the maximum eclipse occurring at 3:23 PM EDT.
Morning SKYWARN Training Session
Skywarn Training Sessions are designed to teach individuals how to accurately report severe weather conditions to the National Weather Service (NWS) ranging from snowfall measurements to severe weather (hail, wind, tornadoes, flooding). Everyone is welcome to attend, there is no age requirement and you do not need to have had prior training.
Volunteer Exam (VE) Test Session
VE Test Sessions precede the Monthly Club Meeting, starting at 6:00 PM. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to earn their license or upgrade their existing privileges. Walk-ins are allowed.
Please create an FCC account if you don't already have an FRN number. apps.fcc.gov/coresWeb/regEntityType.do Bring your FRN number (for upgrades: a photocopy of your current license) to the test session, along with government issued photo ID.

Monthly Club Meeting
Our guest speaker, Allen Lutins KC2KLC will delve into the fascinating world of International Marconi Day, an annual event celebrating the achievements of the legendary radio inventor, Guglielmo Marconi. Allen will share his insights about the Marconi Tower, a historic landmark located next to NYSEG Stadium in downtown Binghamton.
You will not want to miss this opportunity to learn about the rich history of radio communication and Marconi’s pivotal role. Whether you are a seasoned ham radio enthusiast or just curious about the fascinating world of wireless technology, Allen’s presentation promises to be both engaging and informative.
Everyone is welcome to attend, as BARA meetings are open to all. The only prerequisite for attending is an interest in Amateur Radio. CVARA Bullthistle Hamfest
International
Marconi Day
BARA is spearheading an effort to participate again in International Marconi Day, celebrating Guglielmo Marconi's substantial contribution to the invention of radio, which is held annually on the Saturday closest to Marconi's birthday. Participating stations are located at historic sites related to Marconi's life & career as BARA's will be operating from the historic Marconi Tower next to the baseball stadium and train station in downtown Binghamton.
Kopernik Race to the Stars
Kopernik Race to the Stars 5K Road Race is an annual fundraiser started in 2018. Join us for this special 5K road race through the hills surrounding the Observatory.
