Binghamton Amateur Radio Association – February 2025
Winter Field Day
Winter Field Day was a great success, with over 50 people in attendance over the course of the two-day event. Volunteers contributed their time and effort, working as operator/logging teams to ensure smooth operations and engaging with the numerous families and prospective hams that stopped by to learn more about amateur radio. One of the key highlights of this year's event was the introduction of rule and scoring changes, which, along with an extended operating time, provided more opportunities for participants to get on the air. Winter Field Day once again proved to be an excellent opportunity to highlight the importance of amateur radio for emergency preparedness, technical learning, and team building.

BARA Monthly Club Meeting
After our regular business portion of the meeting, there will be a presentation on "How to Discord" with a Q&A session by Mike Moran KE2DQQ. Discord is considered a "platform" or "app" rather than just a website or collection of pages. It allows users to communicate through text, voice, and video chat, essentially functioning as a social communication hub where users can interact within virtual communities called "servers." Whether you are an experienced operator or just starting out, this presentation is not to be missed.
If you have not received your invitation to join BARA’s Discord, please reply to this email and let us know. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable insights, learn how to effectively use Discord, to connect with fellow amateur radio enthusiasts. In addition to BARA, several other amateur radio groups use Discord to connect their members and foster efficient communication, such as; Absolute Tech Net, The HamShack, LIDS and Winter Field Day, just to name a few.
Everyone is welcome to attend, as BARA meetings are open to all. The only prerequisite for attending is an interest in Amateur Radio. In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet other ham radio operators in your area and learn from their experiences as well.
Unable to attend in person? Click here to Join the Meeting via Zoom.
