BARA Monthly Club Meeting
Wednesday, March 19, 2025  7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Kopernik Observatory, 698 Underwood Rd, Vestal, NY

We are excited to welcome Ben Sheron, KC2OTS, as our guest speaker this month. Ben will deliver an enlightening presentation on the use of solar power in amateur radio. This engaging session will provide a comprehensive overview of how to harness renewable energy to enhance your ham radio activities.

Ben plans to bring a hands-on element to this session with a small solar panel and other components to complement his presentation. He will guide us through a brief history of solar power, an in-depth look at the components of a solar power system, and innovative ways to integrate solar energy into amateur radio operations. For those who enjoy diving into the technical side, Ben will also touch on some math related to system design and performance optimization. Ben’s presentation will also encourage participation, with opportunities to ask questions and explore ideas for using solar power in your setups.

In addition, attendees will have an opportunity to learn about the solar power system at the Kopernik Observatory and its use in supporting their amateur radio activities. This cutting-edge setup is a great example of how renewable energy can power communication systems effectively and sustainably.

Everyone is welcome to attend, as BARA meetings are open to all. The only prerequisite for attending is an interest in Amateur Radio. In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet other ham radio operators in your area and learn from their experiences as well.
