Attention BARA Members and Guests:

 

We are cordially invited by Dr. Nathaniel Frissell W2NAF to attend this special event celebrating Citizen Science Month and World Amateur Radio Day. To celebrate, W3USR and HamSCI are teaming up with the ARRL and SciStarter to host an Amateur Radio Open House and participate in One Million Acts of Science.

 

Dr. Frissell is an Associate Professor at the University’s Department of Physics and Electrical Engineering,
Faculty Advisor to the W3USR Amateur Radio Club, and lead organizer of the HamSCI.
He will also be the featured speaker at the Kopernik Observatory’s Friday Night Program on May 23rd.

 

Event Details - Thursday, April 24, 2025

 

·        11:00 - 11:30 AM – Arrival and parking. Please plan to arrive in this window to allow time to get to the venue.

 

·        12:00 PMIEEE Talk:
Rob Robinett, AI6VN – “Next-Generation HamSCI Receive System: Advancing Space Weather Monitoring”
Location: Moscovitz Theater, 4th Floor, DeNaples Student Center
Rob is the founder of
WSPRDaemon and a key HamSCI collaborator.

 

·        1:15 PMLunch at Trax Bar & Kitchen (located in the historic Lackawanna Radisson Hotel,
a former train station adjacent to campus).

 

o   Note: Each person is responsible for their own meal. Only one check per table will be issued,
so please bring cash or be prepared to use a mobile app to split the bill.

 

·        ~3:00 PMTour of W3USR Station
Following lunch, we’ll walk over to the station for a guided tour. Feel free to stay as long as you like.

 

·        4:00–9:00 PMOpen House for the General Public

Carpooling is encouraged. Scranton is approximately a one-hour drive from Binghamton.
