During the 10th National Biennial Convention held on March 31, 1979 at Minglanilla, Cebu, a mission statement for the alumni program within Alpha Phi Omega came into being and was adopted. The statement says:

"The purpose of the alumni association shall be to promote the principles of Alpha Phi Omega among alumni members and the entire Service Fraternity and Sorority through such activities as the alumni association may deem desirable."

The adopted statement sets the course for alumni involvement for years to come.

But as alumni members, why still get involved with APO alumni? Sometimes, some unwelcome guests and neighbors were posturing us that we already old, that we already have a family, that we are here in a remote province, and have work of our own. And now with that question being asked of us, we started to think and analyze.

Interestingly, there is some truth to the saying "Once an APO, always APO," primarily because of the three guiding principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service. Consequently, we have sought to share the nobleness of these principles to one and all. Years went by and now we see many brothers and sisters with whom we are able to share what we always wanted to.

Service has become identified with Alpha Phi Omega. But as alumni, have we really taken pains to pronounce APO as an ideal oranization for leaders, friends and servants worthy of emulation by others? Indeed, we are emphasizing the need for APO alumni assocations to be conscious about society. It is a fact that APO exists but we may not have been serious about the things APO should be.

It has always been envisioned that the APO alumni assocation would become an influential factor in nation-building through three universal guiding principles - LFS. There are a few who have been very palliative but definitely not because of invincible ignorance.

We must make society aware that APO was founded for them, for man. APO, through its alumni association, is fresh and energetic to answer to the call of the Divine Providence, that man should serve man, because serving man is an offering of love. On our part, we must exert some effort and work for the realization of these ideals.

Remember that APO, aside from being an organization, an institution and a Greek-letter society, is now a movement. We are acting towards a goal - Service. The alumni program's mission statement is an agreement between our organization and its members that should be taken seriously and thoroughly promoted.
