Beat Frequency Oscillator (BFO)

Beat Frequency Oscillator The BFO is a conventional oscillator which runs at the I.F. frequency of the receiver. The frequency is generally variable by = or - 3kHz by means of a front panel control. Coupling between the BFO and the detector is via a small capacitor, around 5pF.

The BFO injects a signal to beat with the IF to produce a beat note which is audible (the difference between the two frequencies).
