Glasses and Sight

Home

Many years ago, when I worked as a computer programmer my employer paid for me to have a sight test which resulted in my being provided with a pair of glasses suitable for use with a VDU. I discovered that I could use these with my long distance glasses to better focus on very small components.

As a result I now have what I call “engineering glasses” made when my normal bifocal glasses need updating. These are also bifocal with the top lens set to focus on the test gear which is a focal distance of 3-4ft (1-1.3m) and the lower lens set to focus on components which is a focal distance of about 6 inches (150mm).

These glasses work extremely well and allow me to clearly see the writing on surface mount components and continue with my software development and hardware construction work.
