9e.1 Recall that the main health effect of exposure to electromagnetic radiation is heating of body tissue.
9e.2 Recall that guidance on safe levels of RF radiation is available
from government and international bodies (HPA – Health Protection
Agency and ICNIRP- International Committee on Non-Ionising Radiation
Protection).
The main health effect of exposure to electromagnetic radiation is the
heating of body tissue. This can take place where unshielded high
power transmitters are in close proximity to the body and possible
where high power is used from a handheld with the antenna held near the
head.
The government and international bodies (HPA-Health Protection Agency
and ICNIRP - International Committee on Non-ionising Radiation
Protection) offer guidance on the safe levels of RF radiation
9e.3 Recall why it is unwise to look down a microwave frequency
waveguide or to stand close to or in front of high-gain antennas as
they may be in use. Some sources of power can have a very high ERP. For example a high gain antenna and a microwave frequency waveguide. It would certainly be unsafe to stand in front of one of these when they are transmitting using high power.
