USB charger for easy access

The USB charger in the pocket is great for charging a phone or other device that doesn't need to be accessed. Running a cable from the pocket is a PITA due to the weather trim. Adding an easily accessable charger makes sense. Amazon sells a charger specifically marketed at motorcyles. It comes with fused harness. Charging a helmet bluetooth unit or a phone in use (mounted to the clutch bracket) is now easy.

I use bluetooth for intercoms so the removal of the DIN connector cable was a no brainer. The charger is attached with two layers of 3M VLB tape . It has a built in SAE connector and because the included cable is a red / black pair, I used heat shrink to cover the wires for the last 6 inches or so up to the connector. It makes the install a little cleaner. The clearance to the pocket door is close. Moving the charger another 1/8" further down the console would be perfect. A small slide switch located on the lower side of the charger allows it to be powered off when not needed.
This harness was made from combining the Show Chrome USB charger for the left pocket. The fuse holder is from the Amazon charger. I added the bullet connectors to allow easy removal for service or modification. A 10 amp fuse is included with the Amazon charger. I changed it to a 5 amp due to the gauge of the Honda wire feeding it. I think if I have a phone or other USB device that pulls more than 5 amps, I have another problem.
If you just want to make your own harness, the two pin connector is a MTW - Hitachi type connector. With the locking tab up, positive is on the right as you face the connector. The bullet connectors are 3.5mm. A double female is available to make things a little cleaner. Cycleterminal.com is one of the vendors I have used.
