Adding a Brake Flasher to a 2012-2017 GL1800
I've installed LED brake / turn signals and a flasher in my last two bikes. I've used the same flasher in all of them. The GS-100A does 4 fast, 4 slower then solid when the brakes are activated. It's rated for 20 watts. Which is more than enough when using LEDs The flasher is dirt cheap @ about $5 on Amazon or Ebay. If you happen to have a high mounted LED, you will need two flashers due to how Honda wired the bike. Using a break out harness to punch a hole in brake circuit AND get access to the run, left and right turn signals as well as the trunk release circuit! M61A1Mech on GL1800riders.com provides just a product. Kuryakyn makes the 3220 rear accessory harness that connects to their products.
The "C31" connector is burried under the seat on the far left side (in the image) between the plastic fender and the aluminum frame. I used 3.5 mm female "bullet" style connectors on the tapped leads of the harness.

Each one was crimped and soldered and had extra shrink sleeving added for insurance against potential shorts.

I had asked Steve at SJK to leave the brake circuit as two wires. Mating bullets were used to insert the flasher into the circuit. Just in case the flasher takes a crap, it can be easily bypassed by just connecting the male and females together.

After installing the harness, the fun part is getting it all tucked back in there! To make access easier I removed the cable stays and skootched the cables a little here and a little there.

Everybody is tucked in, nice and tidy. The flying leads are inside the end of a plastic sandwich bag to keep them clean until I need them for the next project (adding extra rear turn signals). The cable stays are reinstalled and the flasher unit is secured with double sided tape.

Don't forget to install the flasher's ground wire! The battery clamp bolt was easy. I added the flag as a reminder in case the battery was serviced.

If you have a high mounted LED brake light, you need to remove the inner lid of the trunk to access the connectors. There are three two pin connectors of the same style. The white is the what should be currently used for the brake. The red is constant power. The blue is hot when running or accessory is on. The hanging connector is for the remote sensor. Unseating it makes the lid removable. Using male and female Hitachi 2.8mm MTW 110 two pin connectors on the flasher allow plug and play installation. The connectors came with the kit I bought from SJK but they can be purchased from cycleterminal.com, Amazon.com or Ebay.

One note here: Don't place the flasher unit where it is in the picture. It will bump heads with the remote unit that is on the top side of the lid liner. Place it further back and away towards the very top of the back wall of the upper seat.

I have the extra two bulbs in the center combination housing wired for brake (like Honda should have did at the factory, but I guess the incandescent load was too high....) LEDs make it all the "betterer"

Watch the result here.....
