GL 1800 broken passenger cubby hinge

My Wing came with a broken hinge on the passenger left side cubby door. The door swings open on two small stems that are at the very bottom of the cubby. On mine, the outside stem was broken off.

The box is made up of three parts, the front, rear and a rubber "hinge" (it really isn't a hinge) that acts as a stopper to keep the door from sliding off the stem hinges. The best price I could find on the replacement "front" of the cubby was about $180 (P/N 82211-MCA-A60ZA). That wasn't going to happen.

After staring at it for a few minutes, I had an idea to just make a new stem from a small bolt. The bolt was from my 35 year old collection of screws, nuts, bolts and other hardware so I can't specify an exact match. What I should have done is measure the diameter of the existing hinge point and find a bolt that was the same size. IF you don't match the size the door may tilt to the right. Ask me how I know.....

The repair is BEHIND the door so its invisible 98% of the time. A little sanding and some black model paint would make it invisible 99.9 % of the time.

The two off color upside down "L" looking things are a single rubber "hinge". It acts as a stopper to keep the door in place. You need to remove the single phillips head screw on the inside left edge of the cubby in order to remove the door.

Get the bolt to be about center of the opening.

I used aluminum tape to test the placement.

JB Weld applied and waiting.

Remove the tape, use a file to smooth out the epoxy.

The installed rubber stopper screw is visible here.

All done, a black sharpie pen helps to cover the epoxy.

k2mpw at that ya who dot come place.
