RAM mounts are great but..

I wanted to add a RAM ball mount to the clutch side of the handle bars. The RAM-B-309-1U model is made specifically to mount behind the clutch or brake bracket. It sells for about $15 on Amazon.

The issue is that for as good as RAM stuff is, they cheap out by including plastic spacers that are a little too big to fit across the channel of the bracket. At the same time they are too small to fit span the entire area. That makes them sit at odd angles and get crushed when attempting to tighten it all up.

I used a pair of 1/4" x 7/8" threaded couplers instead of the included plastic. The couplers fit perfectly into the Honda rear bracket of the clutch or brake handles. Home Depot sells them 3 for $1.50. The first step is to drill out the threads with a 1/4" bit. The second and last step is to place them in a vice and cut them down to about 1/2 " in length.

Adding a 1/4" flat washer between the RAM mount and the spacer makes for a nice tight fit. A little black enamel paint will take care of the shine.

The end result is a secure mechanical connection for both the RAM mount and the clutch or brake handles! No more stinking plasic spacers.

k2mpw at that ya who dot come place.
