MW Highlights and Observations:

MW was somewhat subdued compared to the hot action on LW and up to 531 Khz (with loud 'More FM'). No personal records here this time. Somewhat thin above 1300 Khz and slightly less robust overall than the last two years.
Highlights: 16 Hawaiians, V7AB 1098 at signoff with anthem, Chinese Voice 936 (New Zealand, 1KW), 6WA 558 (Western Aus), 7FG 1161 (Tasmania, 1KW), ABC affiliate on 720 (likely 4MT), RNZ Dunedin NZ on 810. 2BY Byrock (AUS) on 657, penetrating the 50 KW Star blowtorch, Glen Innes (AUS) on 819, Newstalk ZB (NZ) Gisborne on 945. 11 Japanese "big guns", a record 16 "Newstalk ZB" affiliates. 101 DUs overall. 65 Kiwis and 36 Aussies (7 to 4 ratio). The ratio will always favor the Kiwis at the Rockwork cliffs due to the reliable NZL enhancement.

KHMB 1710 is gone, its 5x100 milliwatt oldies signal completely wiped away by the Travis AFB TIS and a nasty KTIL spur. Fond memories (and SDR recordings) are all that remains.

NDB Highlights and Observations:
Gary and I sure had fun with the NDBs this year. Despite severe static crashes, records were broken by both of us using both styles of DXing. LW is where the action was and Gary and I were able to recognize it and take advantage.

KK 226 (NZ), AP 230 (NZ),  PP 242 (NZ), GB 274 (NZ), WYY 302 (AUS),  HK 310 (NZ), MG 341 (OCE), KI 350 (NZ), SY 350 (NZ), HID  356 (AUS), NL 358 (NZ), WK 362 (NZ), HL 378 (NZ), LX 386 (NZ)and SWH 407 (AUS) have never been reported heard in North America before. WYY 302 becomes my longest NDB reception ever at 8170 MI / 13146 KM. This blows away last year's record of 6 North America "Firsts", and most of those stations were in again. 373 HHI 'Wheeler' Wahiawa (Hawaii) was decommissioned this year.

310 HK, 350 KI, 378 HL and 386 LX are the first NDBs from New Zealand's South Island to be reported from NA, and 4 AUS states were represented, including an "NA first" reception of a Tasmanian beacon, and an "NA second" of a Victoria beacon (last time was 2009 on a now decommissioned NDB). The 73 Pacific / DU NDBs easily beat last year's record 56 and constitutes my finest haul of Pac/AUS/NZL beacons ever. and a record for a West Coast DXpedition. In addition we had northern path NDBs in from western Alaska and even Far Eastern Russia. It's Solar Minimum time and Rockwork 2019 was an NDB Paradise!

Further Comments: The NZL beacon results were particularly astounding. All 8 of the NZL NDBs EVER reported heard from North America were in, plus ELEVEN new ones never reported (NA Firsts). These 19 account for 75% of all NDBs operational in New Zealand at the time, many just 25W. The Kiwi enhancement of the Cliffs in action!

Rockwork also seems particularly good for the French Polynesian beacons from the MAR, OCE, AUI and TUA island groups. We only hear a handful if any at Grayland. A mere 5 were heard by myself during the 2019 IRCA Grayland DXpedition in September; at least 20 were in at the cliffs this time, including new HH 345, MG 341, FA 305 and MA 316. These were discovered by revisiting my SDR recordings and following up on KIWI SDR reports to the NDBList. MG is a "NA first", its only other logging in the world being from an Easter Island DXpedition. As of this DXpedition all known NDBs have been logged from these islands from the Rockwork site.

At this years IRCA Convention in Tukwila, WA I was invited to give a presentation about these cliffside DXpeditions. The powerpoint and recorded audio of the talk along with the other presenters are available HERE.
