WTDY 1670 Madison, WI

Here is an update on the testing of WTDY/WAWY.....

Monday June 29, 1998, WTDY is now broacasting full-time on 1670. 1480 is now WTDA, and can be on for up to four years. After the fourth year WTDA 1480 MUST shut down.

WTDY 1670 is 10kW day, 1kW night NON-directional.

As of about Noon May 1, 1998, WTDY 1670 began testing with an open carrier!

As of Saturday May 2, 1670 has been broadcasting program as well. At 1:00PM Central Time, they were broadcasting Kasey Kasems' Top-20, throwing in IDs as "This is WAWY Madison testing on 16-70 AM".

I stopped by the transmitter site today April 22, 1998, and talked to the guys putting the transmitter in. The transmitter IS installed, and they are running the cable to the tower they will be using. (The tower site pic is located here.) They will be using the self supporting tower to start out with. This tower is only used during the 1480 day pattern, and will not effect the night pattern that uses the four-in-line array.

The transmitter is located in a building under the third tower back in the four-in-line array. They will increase the height of that tower to about 330' and use that tower after they shut down 1480, which must occur within five years.

The 1670 facility will have the calls WTDY after the testing is done, and the 1480 facility will change to WTDA.
