TIPS AND TWEAKS

Soundmodem

I have had very good success with
these settings as shown ...  i do
sometimes run an amplifier, so the
TXDelay setting is a bit higher.  I also
have a fairly powerful pc, so am able to
run the max allowed RX pairs as well.
Don't forget to hit that big OK button to save
the changes you have made eh ??

EasyTerm

Ok, the big one here is
Paclen at the very bottom.
For vhf 128 is fine and for hf
64 works -- i tend to stick with
a 40 character paclen as it tends to work better most times with
the unpredictable path conditions
one can experience on hf.  Don't forget to
hit the big OK button to save the changes as well.

The Soundmodem.ini file...   ok..       if ya REALLY wanna
get into some stuff, you can mess around with the soundmodem.ini
file found in the same folder that Soundmodem runs in -- it is created
the first time soundmodem is run and remains there after that.  Some
of the parameters listed in this file are changed by the previous settings
we have already done using the settings interfaces.  Others can only be changed
in the file itself -- the REALLY IMPORTANT one to change if you are running
packet on hf is the Maxframe -- set it to a number 1:  Maxframe=1
It should be located right under the [AX25_A] line in the file.   You can also
change the Maxframe on the other modem under the [AX25_B] line if you
want, just in case you ever decide to run another modem besides the A one :)
There are a couple other ones you can mess about with - like the MyDigiCall
line too, but the MAXFRAME one is the biggie on hf eh.  If you do decide to
change more than that -- ALWAYS a good idea to create a backup first.
