Salt Water Dummy Load

Go Home

Having bought a linear amplifier, I needed a dummy load in order to test and tune it up. Preferably a cheap one that I could get right away. Enter the salt water dummy load!

Mine needs to handle >600W of RF in, so I decide to build a full gallon saltwater dummy. Stealing a very seldom used pitcher from the kitchen, a couple bucks worth of S0-239 connector, some 8 gauge copper wire, and a pince of salt and it's got flat 1:1 VSWR on 80m/40m and 1:1.3 VSWR on 20m. I suspect it's not fully flat due to the 12" of 8ga wire.
