+ SILENT KEYS + Knut Haugland (LA3KY) passed away on 25 December at 92
years of age. He was the last surviving crewman who crossed the Pacific
Ocean on the legendary balsa wood raft "Kon-Tiki" in 1947. During the
101-day voyage he served as radio operator along with Torstein Raaby.
Amateur radio played a critical role in the success and safety of the
expedition; Haugland and Raaby operated as LI2B on the amateur bands and
kept a schedule with W1AW and other US stations.
Other recently reported Silent keys include Yuri V. Fedorov (RW0QO) and
Zenon Dabrowski (SQ2EET).
