Marconi Nobel 100 Award: ------------------------ In 1909 Marconi received the Nobel Prize in recognition of his contribution to the development of wireless telegraphy. The Swedish Amateur Radio Society offers an anniversary award and will activate the anniversary calls SI0GM, SI1GM, SI2GM, SI3GM, SI4GM, SI5GM, SI6GM and SI7GM between Nov 9 and Dec 10. Other Swedish stations using the prefix SI do not count for the award. Each station counts once per band and day and the fee is 5 Euro or 5 USD. Applications should be sent with log entry to the SSA Awards Manager, Bengt Hogkvist, Ostbygatan 24 C, SE-531 37 Lidkoping, Sweden. Check also the website: http://awardmanager.se WSPR beacon V53ARC up and running: ---------------------------------- On October 16 the WSPR beacon V53ARC in Namibia went online. During the first tests with 5 and 2 watts it has been spotted already around the globe on 80m to 6m. It will be moved to its final location on a hill outside of Windhoek as soon as site preparations are done. The TX power will be set to 1 watt at this location. WSPR stands for "Weak Signal Propagation Reporter" and the abbreviation is spoken as "Whisper" sometimes. WSPR has been invented by the radio amateur and winner of the Nobel prize in Physics professor Joseph Taylor,K1JT, and is used to test the propagation. WSPR is able to get information from extremely weak signals with a signal to noise ratio of up to -32 dB.
