The new call sign system in the Russian Federation -------------------------------------------------- Rolf Rahne,DL6ZFG, has provided an overview and writes: It was a good time when it was easy to identify with whom you were going to deal with. We even got familiar with all those changes after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but once more a reform of the call sign system in Russia might cause some new difficulties. Short call signs may be asked for now and many operators do so. At first sight the new system looks more complicated, but a closer look will help to understand it. The paper is trying to explain the system which is valid in Russia since mid 2010. Some rules for the formation of call signs are logical, some others are less understandable or less important for us. In Russia callsigns for the amateur radio service are based on the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet and the figures 1-0. The prefix is formed by the letter "R" or by two letters "RA–RZ" or "UA–UI" (indicating the affiliation to the Russian Federation), followed by a figure. The suffix is formed by up to four characters, but special callsigns for certain occasions may have more than four. Call signs which are similar to emergency codes, the series QRA-QTZ and those being "vulgar" will not be issued. It is the figure of the prefix and the first letter of the suffix that indicate the territorial affiliation of the amateur radio station to a certain part of Russia. One has to take into account that the Russian Federation has been re-grouped, e.g. some regional districts (Oblasti) have been merged. Further changes can be expected in the future. Exceptions from these rules were made for the call RAEM (E.T. Krenkel) and for identifiers used during ARDF activities. The list can be downloaded from: http://www.darc.de/uploads/media/russian_callsigns_2010.pdf QSL information for PJ stations =============================== Call QSL via Address ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- PJ2A N5UCF Gerald R Byrd, 14018 Keebler Rd, Gulfport, MS 39503, USA PJ2T N9AG Scott A Lehman, 111 Fairfax Ct, Greenville, OH 45331,USA http://www.clublog.org/charts/?c=pj2t or LoTW PJ2/OH1VR OH1VR Seppo Sisatto, Okakatu 3 A 18, Tampete 33100, Finland PJ2/PB2T PB2T Hans Blondeel Timmerman, 6507 Walter Dr, Alexandria, VA 22315, USA or Hans Blondeel Timmerman, NAPO 971, 3509 VP, Utrecht veldpost, The Netherlands PJ2/W5MPC W5MPC Michael P Corey, 149 Union St, Apt 5, Bristol, CT 06010 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- PJ4B PA8A Peter Jelgersma, Noordzijde 14, 2411 RA, Bodegraven, The Netherlands http://www.clublog.org/charts/?c=pj4b PJ4D W3HNK Joseph L Arcure, 115 Buck Run Rd, Lincoln University, PA 19352, USA http://www.bonaire2010.com PJ4I DL9USA Andreas Glaeser, Box 100 246, 03122 Spremberg, Germany PJ4LS Hans, J.L.S. van Hese, Kaya Berilo 20, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles PJ4N DJ8NK Jan Harders, Kalckreuthweg 17, 22607 Hamburg, Germany PJ4NX PA3CNX Peter de Graaf, Kaya Hobo 1, Kralendijk, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles PJ4W W3HNK Joseph L Arcure, 115 Buck Run Rd, Lincoln University, PA 19352, USA PJ4/PG4M PG4M Michiel Minderhoud, Tiendweg West 10, 2941 E Lekkerkerk, The Netherlands http://www.bonaire2010.com PJ4/W9NJY WD9DZV Timothy M Garrity, 5407 W Rosedale Ave, Chicago, IL 60646-6525, USA LoTW (Jan 1) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- PJ5/AA4NC AA4NC William J Roberts, 8104 Lawdraker Rd, Apex, NC 27502,USA or LoTW PJ5/AH6HY AH6HY David Flack, PO Box 29761, Honolulu, HI 96820-2161, USA PJ5/K1XM KQ1F Charlotte L Richardson, 11 Michigan Dr, Hudson, MA 01749 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- PJ6A N4NX William Barr, 355 Westerhall Ct, Atlanta, GA 30328-1233 http://www.saba2010.com PJ6/K4LMY K4LMY Henry Hassell, 17251 Ingram Lane, Amelia, VA 23002, USA PJ7E Sint Maarten 2010, Box 333, Bethlemen, GA 30620-9989 http://www.stmaarten2010.com/log.html or LoTW (6 mo) PJ7MF IZ1MHY ONLY DIRECT: Andrea Gili, Via Dorgia 54, 19126 La Spezia SP, Italy http://www.iz1mhy.tk PJ7/AA4NC AA4NC see above or LoTW PJ7/AH6HY AH6HY see above PJ7MF IZ1MHY ONLY DIRECT: Andrea Gili, Via Dorgia 54, 19126 La Spezia SP, Italy http://www.iz1mhy.tk ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to OPDX and the KCDXC Newsletter for providing some of the details above.
