LA4SHF and LA5UHF beacon

 

 

At present

The LA4SHF and LA5UHF beacon is located in a remote site at the sea-shore 150m ASL,  50km south of Stavanger, approx. 10 km away from the beach. The locator is JO28UO.

This is a picture of the beacon location. It is a silo on top of a hill, a bit inland from Varhaug at a farm call Røyrmya..

In the mast you see from top to bottom :

LA4SHF 23cm beacon became operational from August 2003

The frequency of operation is   1296,885MHz.. The call is keyed using A1.

The  transmitter is  4,5 Watt to the antenna, a 10dB Coliniear at 150 m ASL beaming 180degrees. 

The transmitter is a built by LA8OJ, Jan and is maintained by LA9VFA Olav( in the photo)

LA4SHF 3cm beacon became operational the 7 of September 2005 at 1900 gmt

It was first heard br PA0BAT on 15 october 2005 at 21:54 gmt with 599 report.

The frequency of operation is   10368,850MHz.. The call is keyed using F1.

The  transmitter is  0.2 Watt to the antenna, a 2x13dB dobbelhorn at 150 m ASL beaming north and south.. .

The antenna is homebuilt 2 x horn…sectorhorn for wide AZ and low EL to the south, and normal type horn to the north.

They both shear the same feed in the middle. Gain appx 13dB each. The return loss is >40dB.

 The transmitter is a DB6NT Bake, built and maintained by LA3EQ, Jan

 

 

--------------------- LA5UHF 70cm beacon-----------------------

LA5UHF became operational the 22 of January 2006 at 1200 gmt

The frequency of operation is 432,441MHz.. The call is keyed using A1.

The  transmitter is  20 Watt to the antenna, a 13dB Yagi . at 150 m ASL beaming S.W.. 

The transmitter is a built by LA6LU, Geir and maintained by LA3EQ, Jan.

This beacon was first heard by GM4CXM Ray on January 26, 2006. The report was 539, and he heard it all evening long….

press her for mp3 recording of LA5UHF recived in Stavanger 50km north of the beacon qth with a 6 el yagi 10 feet over the ground. The signal was appx 20dB over the noise level.

This shows the short term drift over 7 hours…Crystal aging in process(2 week old crystal, and the beacon is about 300Hz low)!

This shows very short term drift over 10 minuetts! It shifts upwards at long keydown periods.

On the 30 January 2006 this is what the weather looked like. LA5UHF was heard by many stastion all over Europe.
