John, W2GW, the LIDXA President, called to order the meeting of Thursday April 21, 2011 at 8:25 PM. Members present included John, W2GW and XYL Louise, K2MAU; Ed, K2MFY; Steve, N2AJ; Andy, W2VZQ and XYL Marilyn; Marv, W2FGD; Karen, W2ABK; Art, N2KA; and Frank, N2FF.
Tonight’s meeting was held on a Thursday night since the second night of Passover occurred on our regularly scheduled Tuesday night.
Several members reported that the solar flux has been dropping slowly since peaking up around 150 a couple of months ago. For the most part conditions now are fair on the higher bands, although somewhat noisy.
Through a recent vote in the country, the Northern part of Sudan will be claiming independence from the South Sudan. A name for the new country has not yet been determined; however, a DXpedition is already planned for July 2011 once DXCC status has been assured by the ARRL.
The DXpedition to Kanton Island in the Central Kiribati group as T31A is expected to be starting up in a day or two. The club has given a contribution and our logo appears on the www.t31a.com website. Also some members have donated as individuals. Past LIDXA member Jay Kobelin, W2IJ (ex-WA2FIJ), is heading up this multi-national DXpedition.
Starting the business portion of tonight’s meeting was the approval of the March 15, 2011 meeting minutes. These minutes were accepted as presented. In addition, the minutes were prepared in advance by LIDXA Secretary, Ed, K2MFY, and sent out to the membership with the March meeting notice. Thanks to the efforts of KE2LJ, Pat, the minutes appear in the LIDXA web site at: http://www.qsl.net/lidxa.
John, W2GW, LIDXA Treasurer, presented the Treasurer’s report. A new membership roster, effective April 19, was distributed (and also sent out with the meeting announcement). Current LIDXA membership is 21.
NEW BUSINESS
Frank, N2FF, spoke briefly about the forthcoming Dayton HamVention (May 20–22). The NJDXA would be holding their hospitality suite at the Marriott hotel.
Marv, W2FGD, reminded the membership to check-in at the LIDXA weekly nets on Sunday night at 9 PM local time on the Grumman Hauppauge repeater at 145.330/144.730 MHz (with 136.5 Hz PL), to get the latest information on club matters and events.
With the business portion of this meeting concluded, John presented a DVD on the October 10–23, 2010 Italian DXpedition to Togo as 5V7TT, which was headed up by Silvano, I2YSB.
(It was nice to see that the A/V projection system was operating satisfactorily!)
This meeting concluded at around 9:30 PM after all the scheduled business had finished. The next scheduled meeting of the LIDXA is Tuesday May 17.
