Verdes Half Marathon - Other Hours
- Amateur operators are needed to support the Palos
Verdes Half Marathon
- It was the country’s second-oldest
continuously run marathon until it evolved into a Half Marathon, 10k
and 5k in 2014.
- Participants start and finish above
the Terranea Resort in
Rancho Palos Verdes.
- The course follows the road
through residential neighborhoods with million dollar homes
and flows along scenic coastal cliffs with views of Catalina Island in
the distance..

- The Lomita Fair originated in 1982 and has since
become a
popular annual event and one of the largest and longest running fairs
in the Los Angeles Area.
- DCS participation was appreciated and publically
acknowledged by the Deputy in charge. We were a bit short
staffed
which meant we were continuously very busy over the three days. Some
members served multiple shifts. Please
consider volunteering next year.

Cal OES Southern Region Radio Rodeo
- In the first hour we operated local District nets on
3 frequencies
taking position reports from the cities and individuals checking in
- We reported those results to SCC operating on 2
frequencies.
- We also monitored the OA to REOC checkins on 8
frequencies
- Operating location at the Torrance Courthouse
parking lot had a setup almost rivaling Field Day with
furniture; food, four masts to operate on 2-meters, 220, 440,
6-meters with a 2 element beam; a 69' end-fed
long-wire HF antenna coupled with a 9:1 matching box and 75 feet of
coax for 60-meters; and plenty of battery power.

- Diana S-60, Deane S-50, Bob T-22, Cynthia T-220 and
Jim T-228
- We especially thank Jim, T-228 for guiding
us through
the process to obtain a permit to legally use the Torrance Courthouse
lot.

Everyone who attended the Annual Meeting was treated

excellent tour as well as a very informative presentation about the

Emergency Operations from the LMT Parking Lot
- Our station set-ups tested a worse-case situation
from the station parking lot
- Generally we had no problems, although simplex
signals with the west side of Rancho Palos Verdes and Mahattan Beach
were sometimes challenging.

- Over 24,000 athletes from all 50 states and more than
63 countries set out from Dodger Stadium to the
Finish
Line in Santa Monica
- Amateurs staffed the water
stations,
medical aid stations Multi-agency Command Center (MACC), the start and
finish
lines
- Not all positions were staffed
- Operations went smoothly even though the volume of
traffic to the MACC was higher than last year

17 supported the Redondo DSW organization for
the 41st Redondo Beach Super Bowl 5K/10K Race

braved the rain and help make the operation very sucessful
