May 15, 2012 Storm rain totals from stationary thunderstorm

North Carolina Tornado 04/28/2011

This was the second tornado outbreak in 2 weeks, the first outbreak was April 14-16 2011, also known as the Easter Tornado Outbreak.

This outbreak hit the south, Midwest and east coast hard. More can be found on the Wiki Page Tornado Outbreak April 25-28 2011

Here is some local news about the storm. http://hamptonroads.com/2011/04/hampton-roads-under-tornado-watch-5-die-va-storms

This is the radar image from a Tornado that ripped through Elizabeth city NC. The red box indicates a Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The pink box is a Tornado Warning, the pink cone is what is called a Tornadic Vortex Signature, and usually will indicates the the Doppler

radar system is picking up a tornado on the radar. If you notice where the signature is there is a hook that forms around the signature, this

is called a Bow Echo or Bow Hook, it usually indicates there is massive rotation in the system and conditions are prime for the formation

of a tornado. This one did indeed touch down and did only minor damage.

Hurricane Irene 08/27/2011

This is a composite image as hurricane Irene was hitting the coast of North Carolina and Virginia. The eyewall was making landfall on the

Outer Banks of North Carolina, and the Tropical storm force wind bands were reaching up to Richmond Virginia, at this point we were still

about 9 hours from being hit by the western side of the storm.

Here is the pictures from several hours later, around 1:00pm EDT.

The picture above is the rainfall totals at 3:30PM EDT, nearly 12 inches already! Images are thumbnail's because of size.

Ruminants of Tropical Storm Lee 09/06/2011-09/07/2011

It may not look like much, and we have been hit with less than others in the south, As you can see there is a pink downward triangle. That triangle is a Tornadic Vortex

Signature, but yet you see there is no Tornado Warning.

It may not look like much but here is the rainfall totals for 24 hours, the duration of the storm for us thus far as I type.

Not a bad rain fall total for 24 hours, but not as bad as the rainfall for hurricane Irene. But what is this one below.....

Tornadic Vortex Signature, and a tornado warning!! Nearly 20 minutes after the first signature showed up. The weather guys know what

they are doing though, and have a good record of siding on the side of safety. I guarantee they were watching that cell quite closely

for the possibility of a Tornado. Oh and it was several minutes afterward that the local news announced that there was a Tornado

Warning.
