My Antenna's

This is a look at my small antenna farm from the back of the house. My 2 meter Yagi, 6 meter Moxon, and 2 meter vertical are shown.

Using a roof mounted tripod and a Radio shack rotator. I had the rotator and the tripod cost me 15 bucks at the local Gizmo's Electronics Store.

Here is the feedpoint for the doublet.

SGC Tuner at the base. The ladder line has since been extended and move to my entrance panel. The SCG tuner will be mounted on the house.

The doublet and Vertical will enter the box with the SGC and a relay antenna switch.

"Green Tower" The left pine tree supports the 120' long vertical, you can see the doublet on the lower side of the picture.

Currently working to put down more radials for the vertical.

Couple of antenna plot models for the 5/8 wave 160m antenna.

Old House Antenna's HF

I run a G5RV Jr. hanging on the wall in my room, I shortened the antenna with some loading coils. The antenna works, but I have some better options. With the antenna tuner I am able to work 80m-10m.

I also run a Hamstick on the porch with a custom mount. I use a 20 meter MFJ Hamstick, and worked Moscow Russia and the west coast on it. I use the Antenna Coupler to work all bands 40m through 10m with it.

My most used antenna is a 20' Crappie pole vertical that I use with the tuner to operate 10-40 meter with. This antenna has proved to be amazing for what it is. I worked Japan SSB, and 4 stations in Japan 5 watts digital. I was also able to work Australia 10 watts digital. You can see more pictures below.

Portable Antenna's HF

My main portable antenna for HF is my Yo-Yotenna, it is home made.

The reels are camping clothes line reels, they are loaded with 18 gauge bare copper stranded wire, 51 feet per reel. I chose bare copper so the reels can be reeled out to a specific length to make the antenna resonant on any band I need, the left over wire becomes a terminated ball and does not effect the radiation pattern or resonance. I can also use the antenna tuner for multi band work. The antenna is fed with 28 feet of 300 ohm TV antenna line. This antenna will work 160m through 2m.

Crappie Pole Vertical

I got the idea of using a 20 foot telescopic crappie pole to make a portable 20 meter vertical antenna. I used 22 gauge wire for the vertical radiator and also for the ground radials. I have 4 ground radials, and the vertical radiator cut for 20m. I also took a portion of wire and wrapped a base coil on the pole to allow the operation of 40 meter without a tuner. All connections are made VIA Powerpoles. I am still trying to find a stand for this system that is light and portable.

VHF/UHF antenna

At home I use a copper J pole antenna for 2 meter and 70 cm work. It offers a low radiation angle and about 3 db of gain on 2 meter. Pictures coming soon!

I also use several roll up J-poles, they are easy to make and offer about the same gain as the copper j pole on 2 meter. Because of lead spacing on the roll up they are not a resonant antenna on 70cm. Ones stays in the window in the living room and one stays with the EMCOMM box.
