My first transciever. A mobil CB radio named Zodiac Searcher 23 FM. Used at parents and i my first car a Volvo 340 dl. I had a fullsize quarter wave antenna mounted on a railing at the rooftop. Total hight just below 4m! At home i had a half wave antenna. The radio was easy to get to work, as it was intend with 40ch. Just jukling the 12v power. And then never turn the powersupply off.
This was my first handheld amateur radio. I had some fun with it. I made a small PA so the output was amplified up to 15w, it was made using a BLY88 transister and diode switching rx/tx. Later on I got hold of an empty batteri box. Installed a voltage regulator 7808. In that way it was possibel using a power suply for the radio and the PA. I also made an handmike. As antenna I did som experimenting, I made a stainless steel antenne 5 mm in diameter. It was hard to bend the "eye" that was needed to make it work with the mobil mounting food. To get mover power when being portable i made a 1/4 antenne from som bras wire. fitting into a PL-plug. It was mounted using a BNC to PL adaptor.
ICOM IC 290 E running allmode and 10w on VHF (2m). That was my second rig, it was used as a base as well as a mobil rig. From my apartment in Aalborg it was used with 2 * 6elemnts yagis.

The Icom IC 720A was my first HF rig. That was easy to make a very nice mod on. The mod was to pas the rtty signal via the narrow cw-filter. It worked miracles for the signal.
At first that was used with gp antenne name P1V. A vertical (GP) using a variometer made from to large coils TCS 80 (picture can be seen, at the page with the antennas used at home)
Later the 720a burned the PA-transistors by using a indoor antenna, my first selfmade antenne a large tapped coil and about 5 m wire in the same room as the transciever NOT A GOOD IDEA!
At the same time I had an NDI HC1400 memo VHF. Runing a max of 25W. Very simpel to use.
After moving to Brabrand, I bought a Kenwood TS 440 and that was used along with the feeding system TCS 80 a som wire along the balcony flor. And a bend "GP" made up of 9 meter wire. It was also used with the triangular loop fed via the TCS80.

For local qso's I used a Icom IC02e.

After some years without any amateur radios I got hold of an FT11r handhled. With a special holder with a builtin fan to cool the the radio when operating i.e. mobil with 5w for a longer time. That was used for Packet operation, to BBS more the 30 km away. With a dipol monted in the window.

The tm733 was working very well for several yaers along with a Ringo ar 270b.
At the same time I had an Alinco dx 70t. 100w on all HF-bands and only 10w on 6m. That was used with a SGC 230 tuner on hf. After having used that some years also as portabel station running only 50w on Hf. (the power supply used was "small").

Later on I got another dx-70TH. That was running 100w also on the 6meter band. I hooked it up with an LDG200pro tuner. That was used several years.

I had in the same periode for VHF/UHF Alinco DR635.
I also have had 2 FT897d's the work very nice until some power line failliure crasted the FP-30 built in powersupllies. At first they where used with the Yaesu tuners FC-30. They didn't make it so good with my antenna. So I had the LDG at879, they worked miracles due to at larger SWR range.

So after using the Alinco rigs I went back to the yaesu rigs. Now with LDG AT897plus. Fitted with filters.

Now I've got an ID 51 anniversary edition, it was purchased for holidays and other portable. The D-STAR is something completely new. And I had some problems by setting it up.

At the same time, I got just one Alinco DR-635e (old acquaintance). So it was just to put the power and antenna on. And on the air.

A new HF transceiver was purchased at the same time. A Alinco DX-SR8. A pleasant experience.
As it turned out, it has a better audio than on my Yaesu 897's. It would then just need to have a tuner, I selected an LDG AT-200PROII.

Then I got a DVAP 2m (the small red-dongle). So now I can get out through the internet and onto many repeaters and gateways. That proved somewhat difficult. The software that was on the web from themanufacture, was only connecting to one type of nets. And there no info on possibel gateways or repeaters. So back on the web to searching for software.

For use at home I had a ID-5100 for a short time :-/.
Had my doubts with the tactile display, but was pleasantly surprised. The front was mounted on a NIFTY-stand. The programming was somewhat easier after having the experiency from the ID-51e Anniversary.
But the noise from the fan.... Made most useless, the speaker volume had to bee set very high.
In autum off 2017 I got a TYT md380, the reason was the ordinary FM trafik, was close to not exsisting :-) Most hams in the aera had shifted to that mode. That did give reason for lots work finding out how that was working i.e. codefile an such.

In december 2021 I got a Ayntone AT-578II-plus. The maine reason was to get more power on VHF, for lokal trafik, because 5w fromthe Icom ID-51 wasn't enough in many situations.
As the XYL said the DMR is just an added bonus if it works!

And looking at the specs, and features like BT-ppt, full duplex, a-d modes and more. The absens off a deskmike would easely be covered by the mike and the BT-ppt.
