40M Antennas
2 Element homebrew linear loaded yagi
The 2 element homebrew yagi is a non-conventional linear loaded design with a driven element and a director, the antenna is driven using a 4:1 balun. The boom length is 3.3 Metres (10'). The linear loading elements are now made from aluminium and the wire in the photo is from the first prototype of the beam (which we used to great effect in PACC 2000). The elements are 50% of a full sized beam for 40. An article describing the construction of this beam will be forthcomming.
1/2 wave Dipole
The 1/2 wave dipole is suspended from trees over the pond in the garden at a height of about 10M (33'). We use this antenna for working Europe mostly - but we can also work stateside and JA on it! It has it's major lobes in the east/west directions.
20/40/80 Linear loaded vertical
This is another homebrew antenna by PA3HBB, it is 7.736M high (~23') and uses linear loading to match 40 and 80M.
Cushcraft AP8A multi-band vertical
The Cushcraft is the only antenna we have which is commercial and unmodified. It sits in the garden in the middle of the 50 sq metre groundplane at ground level. The band width is a little narrow on 40M - but it is usable and sometimes hears/works things the others can't.
