VE7CA's Test Bench
Since becoming an amateur radio operator I have built a lot of equipment.
Testing is the most important part of building a working high performance
homebrew amateur radio transciever. One never seems
to have enough test equipment so always keep your eyes open when attending
swap meets etc. for test equipment that you don't have in your shack.
The workshop where I build and test my equipment is located in a closet that
is located adjacent to my ham radio operating desk. 8 foot wide folding doors
provide a way of hiding the sometimes messy work shop. The following picture
shows the current setup with room for parts bins and test equipment. This
picture was taken when I was adding six meters to the HBR-2000.

The following photos show some of the test equipment I built during the
development of the HBR2000. At the bottom is a step attenuator, the box below
the scope houses the Spectrum Analyzer based on the W7ZOI/K7TAU design
(August 1998 QST) and above the scope is a the Power Meter based on
W7ZOI/W7PUA design (June 2001 QST) with digital read out addition by K3NHI
(May/June 2002 QEX). For information regarding repairs to the HP8640 signal
generator shown below the scope in the right bottom of the picture, click "HP8640 HINTS AND KINKS"

1. RF NOISE PULSE GENERATOR.
I built this generator to enable development and testing of the noise blanker
in the HBR-2000. The pulse generator creates sharp (10/50ns rise/fall) +1.5V
noise pluses at about 120 pulses per second. Switch to Fast RATE for 480
pules per second if you don't have a storage scope and trace is hard to see.
