Well-known to all Australians, Dick obtained his amateur licence when he was 17, founded Dick Smith Electronics, the Australian Geographic and Dick Smith Foods. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1999 for service to the aviation industry, and was the 1986 Australian of the Year.

On the Sunday, many WIA attendees went to his farm for a barbeque, and to inspect his aircraft museum.
A flight of  four army helicopters landed during that occasion, but apparently that was not a planned part of the proceedings!

Dick Smith, VK2DIK

Also enjoyed by our army pilots!
