History started life in the 1950's as VK6VF operating only on 50.002 Mhz. In those days unattended operation was not permitted, so the transmitter was located at the home locations of various operators, with extended but intermittent operation. Genuine continuous operation was achieved with a change of attitude by the authorities to unattended operation and a rebuild and shift to a location on the tower of television station TVW Channel 7 in Perth. to reflect new licensing provisions. A transmission in the 2 metre band on 145.000 Mhz was added
The callsign was changed again after a few years to VK6RPH
In the meantime, a second beacon service using the call VK6RPR
