Ernest Leslie Bradshaw (Les) VK6EB

Les was born in Cloncurry Queensland in 1925 and travelled with has family in the Eastern States before settling in Perth. 

He joined the RAAF in 1943 and trained as a Radar Mechanic then worked on catalinas in Darwin. 
He received his AOCP licence in March 1948 (with 14 WPM Morse) and although interested in radio did not set up an amateur station until 1971.   It was then that he joined the WIA.   He operated mainly on HF bands making many friends in VK and on DX. 

Les studied Electrical Engineering at Perth Technical College and later returned to the college to lecture in that field.   He transferred to WAIT (now Curtin University) when it was established and retired in 1985 as Head of Department of Electrical Engineering. 

In his retirement he and his wife Poppy (VK6YF) whom he married in 1950 travelled to numerous parts of Australia and they were regular callers on the VK6 20 and 15 metre travelers nets. 

Les took up making silver jewelry & with Poppy went bush, fossaking for gem stones. 

They attended the ALARA-Meets and enjoyed the fellowship of the YL's OM's.   He also attended local Hamfests meeting old and making new friends.   As well as the WIA Les was a member of RAOTC, WARG, HARG, QRP club and QCWA radio clubs, and attended local meetings regularly. 

In later years his interests were in building equipment and writing technical articles.  Les passed away on 4th June 1998 and is survived by his wife Poppy, two daughters and four grand children.

Vale Les Bradshaw VK6EB

It is with regret I have to report the passing of our friend and club member Les Bradshaw. VK6EB Les was frequently seen with his wife at the HARG meetings with always a friendly greeting and a chat to other members of the club, he leaves behind many friends and associates, from his serving his Country in the RAAF in WW2, and his long association of the WIA and the Amateur Service. 

Gaining his amateur licence in 1948, Les lectured in Electrical Engineering at the WAIT, his keen interest in radio led him to becoming a Life Member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association of America he was also a member of the Old Timers here in West Australia. 

Les also had an interest in lapidary and caravanning around Australia. Les passed away after a long illness on the 4th of June 1998, Deepest Sympathy to Poppy VK6YF and family.
