History from about 1983
From: VK6GM  - To  : VK6CW

Further to our discussion of Thursday, I omitted to mention that in 1938
I was the inaugural recipient of the Carl Cohen trophy awarded for activity in radio research.
I held it through the War years and into the early 50s
when it was awarded to the late Eric Cornelius, VK6EC,
for his work in developing experimental TV equipment.

Upon Eric's passing, his family handed the trophy back to the WIA
as it was too cumbersome to accommodate,
After all, it was an imposing piece, being about 2 feet (in the old language) high.
I understand Dave Couch,VK6WT, was involved in the return to the WIA.

At this point, it disappeared and it seems no trace of it can be found.
I wrote to the WIA about 4 years ago, pointing out that there
was a valuable and prestigious trophy somewhere out there which
could be brought back into circulation if it could be found.
They replied that they did not know it's whereabouts and would
look into establishing a replacement, which of course has never happened.

REPLY FROM BOB VK6BE

Re the Carl Cohen trophy. Yes I remember it well.
Two feet would be a conservative estimate of its huge size.
It was a cup and it must have weighed a couple of kilos at least.
No one wanted it and it was stored in my garage while I was President
and then would have been handed over with the Broadcast gear when I moved in 1971.
The cup by then was an embarrassment....no one wanted it. DE BOB VK6BE

Does any one have any idea as to what happened to this TROPHY ?
