Cliff felt that a change of face was needed
and asked Wally to have a go, but after one year
Wally felt that his experience would be
better utilised at Federal level.
No one else wanted the chair so Cliff
sat there via the Vice Presidents seat for a few months
but eventually allowed himself to be talked into the
Presidents position again.
Cliff had a minor heart attack in March  so Neil agreed to take the chair at the 2000 AGM.
Cliff BASTIN - VK6LZ  – 200 words for the 1991 WIA Council Election.

In the current climate of rapid technological change, with ever increasing pressure from commercial interests for spectrum space, coupled with zealous over regulation by local councils, I believe that the divisional council requires a strong dedicated team, firmly led by a respected diplomatic and informed chairman able to negotiate under difficult circumstances. I believe I can fulfil that role and I am therefore standing for President.

My working career started in accounting and moved to mainframe computing in the 60s, I have held most commercial computing positions from programmer to management and my current interest is in the legal aspects of contracts associated with computing.

I gained NAOCP in 1978, and AOCP 1984. Joining the W.I.A in 1979, I was W.A. Treasurer from April 1981, until retiring from council in 1989. I am Divisional Salvage officer, and last year was appointed chairman of the West Australian Technical Advisory Committee (WESTAC).   I have been Vice President of the West Australian Repeater Group (WARG) for several years, and President of the West Australian Amateur Digital Communications Association (WAADCA) since 1989.

Technical knowledge and experience gained in Amateur radio coupled with my business     career have I think given me the ability to serve the West Australian Amateur community through the W.I.A. Council, I therefore seek your support to my nomination for President.
