Our last WestPac 1971 unrep on Yankee Station was a
consolidation with our sister ship the USS Wichita (AOR-1), during which the Commodore also
shifted his flag and staff from Kansas City to Wichita. The following images are of that
unrep, and are in the order originally shot. |

When preparing to come alongside for the unrep, Wichita
blew her tubes, sending a huge cloud of black smoke and soot skyward. Our skipper, Capt. Craven,
sent a flashing light message to Wichita's skipper asking if he was burning "black oil or coal?" (BH)
