What is Wit Radio? WIT Radio is a special interest club within the WIT Club. WIT members who are also licensed amateur radio operators are eligible to be members of WIT Radio. WIT Radio supports general and emergency communications at the WIT Grand National Rally (GNR) held annually in Forest City, Iowa. At GNR and other special events, we use our club call sign, WØWIT. Many WIT Radio members check into the FMCA ARC Nets at 1300 Eastern Time on 14307.5 kHz daily (M-F). Wednesdays are known as "Winnebago Wednesdays" -- when checking in, please mention that you're a member of WIT, WIT Radio or a Winnebago product owner. WIT Radio maintains its own email distribution list. If you change your email, please notify the Secretary. "WIT Radio" is a Service Mark of WITCARS |

73 FROM THE OFFICERS OF WIT RADIO For those who do not know, Winnebago Industries disbanded the WIT Club a little over a year ago. The WIT GNR has been replaced by “Camp Winnebago” which is basically a gathering of first time Winnebago owners. With the close of the WIT Club all the clubs and special interest groups were officially cancelled. A club or group could continue as a private group, if they wanted, but they would receive no support or assistance from Winnebago Industries. This lack of support included the loss of a special row for parking. The WIT Radio club had its own parking row where we setup radios and a hospitality tent. Now attendees to the “Camp” will basically be parked on a first come first parked basis. One major mistake, in my opinion, that the founders of the WIT Radio Club made was that there was no way to track our membership. You paid $10 and were considered a member as long as you belonged to WIT, owned a Winnebago product, and had a valid amateur Radio license. Over the years, members came and went but, with few exceptions, we didn’t know when they no longer met the criteria. Several months ago, we sent out an email to all members of WIT Radio that we had contact information for saying that we were considering closing the WIT Radio Club. Out of all those emails sent, there were only two replies, and both said that they would never come back to Forest City. After careful consideration, the officers have elected to close the WIT Radio Club. Previously, we had donated all the photos, documents and other memorabilia to the Winnebago History Society located at the Heritage Park adjacent to the Winnebago Grounds. We will also donate the remaining funds in the chapter’s treasury to the society to further their work. Larry Hill and I would like to thank all the members who attended over the years for the good times and memories we have from those days. Unfortunately, times change and not always for the best. 73 and maybe we will all meet again when the time is right.
