MyComputer = File Explorer = File Manager Note: Do not drag applications .exe`s from My Computer to the desktop to make shortcuts. Right-click the .exe file and select `Create shortcut`. Then drag that shortcut to the desktop. Otherwise the programs will use the desktop as the application startup location. Datafiles that the program uses will not be found in the c:\desktop folder and the application will not work correctly! To make desktop shortcuts: -------------------------- GenLog example: 1. In MyComputer go to the c:\genlog32 folder for example - or wherever you installed it - and find genlog326.exe. Right-mouse on the .exe and select `Create shortcut`. Drag the shortcut to the desktop. Edit the shortcut text as desired. 2. Or - Right-mouse click an empty spot on the desktop. Select New, Shortcut. Browse to the c:\genlog32 folder - or wherever you installed it - and find genlog326.exe. Click it and click OK. Edit the shortcut text as desired. Make a `Folder` in the same manner, that you can place all your ham/logging shortcuts into, which will unclutter your desktop. Note: If you do not see the file extensions (.exe, .txt etc.) in XP Explorer - Select Tools, Folder Options, View tab and uncheck the `Hide extensions for known file types` box. Apply. OK. Hit to update the files display. Win7 and Win8 options are similar. ----------------------- GenLog example: Program Menu shortcuts: Go thru the |Start| menu. Start | Settings | Taskbar & Start Menu Select the Start Menu tab. Select the Customize... then Advanced button. Use the Explorer file system to locate where you want to put the shortcut. If you want it in the Programs Menu, then select the Programs folder, highlighting it. If a General Logger group was made by the installer, select that by highlighting it. Select File | New | Shortcut. Browse to the c:\genlog32 folder - or wherever you installed it - and find genlog326.exe. Click it and click OK. Rename the shortcut if you wish.
