The Brightleaf Amateur Radio Club set up a Special Event Station
at Camp Bonner North in Beaufort County, NC using the call sign N4S coordinated by Dave
LeMoine, KV4CN. An Icom 706MKIIG HF transceiver and all band antenna were used.
SSB contacts were made 40 and 20 meters. Operators were Dave LeMoine, KV4CN,
Murray Merner, K4MHM, and Dave Langley, W4YDY. Stations in England, Cayman Islands,
Switzerland and from Florida to Montana were contacted. Boy Scouts enjoyed talking
to operators in Florida and Montana. The operators were very helpful and the Scouts
were excited. Several Boy Scouts were interested in Amateur
Radio and want to learn more about being licensed. Several Scout leaders, some
licensed, came by to observe the operation. Over 1000 scouts from Eastern North
Carolina were at the Camporee. |
