TalkingLogBook - a simple logger / rig control for the visually impaired

Cost: Licence for TalkingLogBook is free.

Requirements:

• Windows Xp and Windows 98 and later (not Windows 95 and 3.1)
• CPU with a speed of about 250 MHz or higher
• 600x800 screen resolution or better.
• A serial port. Works with some USB to serial adapters.
• A short serial cable to connect the transceiver to the PC for Kenwood transceivers and some other radios made by other manufacturers. (Most Icoms, Yaesus require a level converter too).
• Two, free 'helper' programs available on the internet: OmniRig by VE3NEA and TTSX by WA0TTN.

Features:

• Logbook with audible cues
• Usable with several dozen different radios for automatic frequency and mode logging and with ALL radios when used in MANUAL mode.
• Can read and write ADIF files to transfer logbook information among other logging programs.

Amateur Radio Control System Lite for the Kenwood TS-2000

Cost: Licence for ARCS Lite is free.

Requirements:

• Windows 95, Xp and possibly other flavors (not 3.1)
• CPU with a speed of about 500 MHz or higher (The program is sluggish on a P-166 MHz PC using the original Windows 95 operating system).
• 600x800 screen resolution or better.
• A COM1 serial port (other ports can be selected on the opening program screen). Works with some USB to serial adapters.
• Serial communications to the radio with a serial port at 38400 bps or faster (The TS-2000's default port speed of 9600 bps is NOT recommended and is easily changed).
• A TS-2000 (The program might run in conjunction with a Kenwood TS870S, TS570 or TS-480 with some loss of functionality --- has not been tested).
• A short serial cable to connect the transceiver to the PC.

• ARCP Lite controls most common functions of the Kenwood TS-2000.
• Adjustable Band Activity Scan
• Band Limits Warnings
• Enhanced DXCluster information.
• Morse Keyboard and more programmable memory keyers than available internally on the radio.
• Screen features may be magnified up to eight times.
• Easy key board entry of frequency information.
• Convenient adjustment of many level controls that are difficult or counter intuitive using the manual radio controls.
• Visual review of Memory Bank 0 settings.
• Visual review of the radio's MENU settings.
• Communication ports and speeds are adjustable.

General Class Radio Exam Study Guide and Test Generator(Questions valid until June, 2004)

Program requires the file msvbvm50.dll available from Microsoft for free. This DLL may already be resident on your PC. Try the code, if the application partially loads and asks for the dll in an error message, you will need to go to Microsoft and download the DLL, if not, smile. Place the DLL in the same folder as the General Class stuff. I programmed this some time ago as a learning aid to help my son obtain his General Class license...he passed on the first try! I wish you success too!
