It is true that a dog is man's best friend (and women and children, too).
 
In 2013, for my high school senior project, I decided that I wanted to help them in return. The Medford Police Department was in need of ballistic vests for the four-legged officers of the K9 unit. The vests cost several hundreds of dollars, and as much as $2,000 each, an expense borne by the police department itself.
 
The vendor required that the department make the purchase. In order to help reimburse them for the vests, I hosted a Dog Walk at the North Medford High School track. We had a great turnout and lots of folks brought their dogs out to enjoy the exercise, as well as the camaraderie shared with other dog owners and their pets. We even had media coverage from the Mail Tribune, KDRV-TV, KTVL-TV, and KBOI-TV.
 
I want to thank everyone that supported this worthwhile cause. Between the Dog Walk and online donations, I raised enough to purchase two ballistic vests for MPD's K9 officers.
