Marion Lister ZL1BKL

Marion ZL1BKLMarion, ZL1BKL has been a member of WARO since 1968, obtaining her first call sign, ZL1TBR, in 1966. She attended classes with Elva ZL1BIZ and Aola ZL1ALE and these three are still active supporters of WARO.

With a young family, Marion successfully started a part time business, which grew into a specialised Office Service, and she has been a full time business woman since that time. In the 1970s, she was a keen VHF mobile operator and took part in many Mobile Contests. She was reported as "the lass with the" halo"..her mobile antenna mounted on the car roof, being that shape .

In 1972, Marion became the first WARO member to be elected to NZART Council, an office she held for many years. She and Carol ZL1AJL made headlines in the NZ Herald in 1974 when they went on a DXpedition to the Chatham Islands; and in 1976 Marion was part of another DX operation in the Kermadecs as well as returning to the Chathams in 1978. Marion has also been very involved with the Auckland VHF group being a foundation member, serving as President and committee member. WARO is sorry to hear that Marion is in hospital seriously ill.
