We have NOTHING to hide, there's no obfuscation in any of our Enigma traffic, messages deal only with historic events.  Simply follow the instructions to decrypt any message.

While it was a groundbreaking marvel of electromechanical engineering before and during World War II, its core mathematical architecture can be cracked today in a few seconds using AI on a standard smartphone or laptop,  ergo,  as an encryption utility Enigma is Grade 1 obsolete.

Although by modern cryptographic standards,the Enigma machine cipher is obsolete and offers exceptionally low security,  it remains of great historic interest.

To preserve authenticity and ease of operation,   the 1944 and 1945 code pages provided on the Enigma World Code Group website are used by default.    

Provision of a hyperlink in all on-air Enigma traffic to permit almost instant decryption is strongly recommended.    The OPNOTE  BIT.LY/DECREN  (all lower case in browser search field) pointing to this page is a typical example.  In those famous words spoken by the echolink test server, "Feel free to use it as often as you like".

Although Enigma messages were written and recorded with Teutonic formality on ad hoc Telegram-style forms,  the transmissions were kept as short has possible to make the work of Allied DF difficult.   We use the same style merely for efficiency, limiting traffic to call signs, the Enigma message, sign off and OPNOTE.  When passing Enigma traffic to earn the MWP badge, both the clear and encrypted text with preamble must be submitted in all cases.
 

 

 

 

Dirk Rijmenant's easy-to-use, fully functional, Windows-based EnigmaSim is the only simulator referred to on this website and is highly recommended to ensure compatibility between all stations wishing use Enigma on the air.  Other simpler simulators do not necessarily follow the 1918 design by Enigma's inventor Arthur Scherbius, or provide the Doenitz M4 upgrade, therefore compatibility cannot be guaranteed.

Enigma traffic to and from ZL3TK, and indeed between any other stations using this historic German mechanical encryption system, may be decrypted using the initial machine settings by following the instructions available at https://www.enigmaworldcodegroup.com.   Fortunately, Dirk Rijmenats has taken over management of the EWCG website after its brilliant creator, Bruce Culp N7CLH, succumbed to declining health.
